RE: Change in accident and sickness insurance coverage

DATE: September 1, 2002

In 2001, the Northeast Georgia Council, Boy Scouts of America and Learning for Life, Inc. secured the council-wide accident and sickness insurance for those registered in the local program. We have recently been notified of changes in this policy. Effective September 1, 2002, after two years of offering primary coverage, Mutual of Omaha has decided not to renew the primary coverage. Effective September 1, 2002, the policy will be on an excess basis. Under this type of policy, Mutual of Omaha pays the first $300 of medical costs whether or not the family has other medical insurance. If the family does have medical insurance, Mutual of Omaha will only pay those benefits not paid by other insurances, up to $15,000. If the family does not have insurance, Mutual of Omaha may pay up to $15,000.

We ask that Unit Committee chairs and Cubmasters/Scoutmaster work together and be responsible in explaining this policy issue to the rest of the unit leaders and parents of the individual units. We continue to ask units to pay $1.25 per youth and adult registered in your unit for this coverage. This premium is to be paid after rechartering time after being invoiced for the number rechartering in your unit. This is inexpensive insurance for the amount of coverage provided for your youth and adults involved.

Steps to follow when a claim is to be filled or you have questions.

1. Call Myrt Rustay (ext. 135) or Gayle Sykes (ext.115) in the Jefferson Service Center immediately when an accident or sickness occurs that fits the policy conditions and a claim will be filed. Voice mail is available for after hours calls.
2. They will mail a claim form to you immediately to fill out the paperwork and secure the proper signatures. Attach the immediate bills to the claim form and return it to Myrt or Gayle. They will handle the initial paperwork and turn the bills into the insurance companys claim department.
3. All bills after the initial ones should be sent directly to:

United of Omaha Life Insurance Company
