Water Skiing 2003
Home
The water skiing trip is now planned and we are ready to go Friday
August 22 and return by mid afternoon Sunday August 24. We will be leaving from the church at 4pm and heading to Camp Rotary on Lake Hartwell. Bring a sack supper for Friday evening. The lake is full this year!!!!
The cost of the trip will be $15 per person and we will be signing up for the trip this Tuesday. You can pay for this trip out of your scout account if you have money there, or by check or cash. As with all of our trips, YOU HAVE TO BE AT THIS TUESDAY'S MEETING TO GO ON THIS TRIP.
Patrol leaders: Please call your patrols and make sure everyone wanting to go on this trip will be at this Tuesdays meeting.
On Tuesday, Mr. Broadrick will be going over and reviewing the requirements for the water skiing merit badge.
This is a standard camping trip at a primitive camp site. Look at the troop web page if you are unfamiliar with what to bring on these trips. We will provide water skis and life vests.
Food purchasing will be done on a patrol basis and will be organized at this Tuesdays meeting by the patrol leaders. We also need to check out the chuck boxes and make sure they are ready to go. As always, if there are lanterns in the troop, go ahead and bring them. Don't forget the cards!
No prior water skiing experience is necessary, but you do have to pass the BSA swimming requirement.
Adults, if you have a boat capable of pulling skiers and are willing to bring it on the trip, would you contact me and let me know by Tuesday's scout meeting. In the past, we have had at least 3 boats for the scouts to use.
Saturday is a full day of skiing. We will need at least two adults (or one adult and an Eagle Scout) per boat and at least two to organize things back at the dock.
This has always been a good trip for the scouts and when they achieve the water skiing merit badge (sometimes many trips later), it is a real achievement.
Do not forget to bring sunscreen and a water bottle!
Thanks and I look forward to your responses.
Bill R.

P.S. Scouts who plan to take the motorboating merit badge (if it is offered) should review The Boating Safety Handbook at the Department of Natural Resources website. Select "Law Enforcement" then select "Boating Safety Handbook".
