Scout Sunday/Sabbath
Home
Scout Sunday is coming up on Feb 5th at Friendship Presbyterian Church. Troop 149 will be participating in the church service that morning.
Plan to gather at 10:45 in full Scout uniform for the 11 am service.
Hi Scouts, just a reminder that this Sunday is "Scout Sunday," the
opportunity for us to mark the founding of Scouting formally thank
Friendship Presbyterian for their sponsorship. We attend the 11 am
service in uniform and have the chance to be recognized as well.
Although none of our troop members are currently affiliated with
Friendship Presbyterian, our troop has been sponsored by Friendship
Presbyterian since spring 1959-- some of the original people involved
in creating the troop are still in the congregation!
We want to make a good impression so ask that all the Scouts, and
adults, who can come, please to do so! We'd like to be there about
10:45 as various Scouts will assist in passing out programs; those who
have volunteered for 'ushering' (passing the collection plate) will
need to do a quick practice on that also.
Our Chaplains Aides, Ryan & Hayden, with support from Nick H., are
coordinating the volunteers for doing the readings etc., and are also
planning to have some cobbler refreshments available for the Scouts and
congregation following the service.
I hope to see you all there. Thanks also to those who attended Scout
Sabbath tonight at the Congregation Children of Israel and to the D's
for extending us the invitation to participate!
Dear Troop 149,
Please join William and our family at the annual Boy Scout Sabbath service on Friday February 3 at Congregation Children of Israel Synagogue at 8 PM. Rabbi Ronald Gerson will lead the services which last approximately 1 hour followed by refreshments and fellowship in our social hall. The Temple is located on Dudley Drive next door to the Athens Public Library on Baxter Street.
Our Reform Temple and Rabbi Gerson support BSA values. It is always heartwarming to see our troop well-represented at this service which honors Boy Scouts of America. For those of you who have never been to a Jewish Sabbath service, each Friday night Jews come together around sundown, to observe the traditions such as the of lighting the Sabbath candles, giving thanks to G’d for all our blessings and remembering those no longer living.
You are all very welcome at this meaningful gathering.
