Rainey Mountain 2003
Home

Yes it is time to start planning for Rainey Mountain this summer. The dates are July 6-12 and we are looking forward to a great time and a lot of advancement.

The cost for Rainey Mountain is $160 per scout, $145 if we pay per the schedule below:

Please note that this year there are some age requirements and prerequisites placed on the classes this year. Please check to make sure that the class you want is offered for your age group. Please start thinking about which classes you want to sign up for. I will start accepting schedules and 1st payments on Tuesday January 7. I will be able to register on line starting January13 and will try to do so as early as possible so everyone will get the classes they want.

Please remember a couple of items;
1) If you do not have First Aid or Swimming badges, camp is a great place to get them.
2) If you are below first class rank, consider signing up for the TNT classes. You can get a lot of the requirements signed off at camp. If considering TNT, please think about what rank you will be in July (not now) and sign up for the TNT program for that rank.
3) For Eagle required badges, there will be a further review by the Troop to insure that the work is completed to our standards.
4) We suggest that you plan on having classes scheduled for 4-5 periods out of the six. We find that at least one period off allows the boys to complete their homework.

WHEN: July 6-12, 2003. We wil meet at the Church in full uniform at 9AM on Sunday, July 6. We will likely return by noonish on Saturday, July 12.

WHERE: Camp Rainey Mountain, Clayton, GA. We have the Clarksville campsite reserved, which is our usual place. This site has adirondacks with bunk beds for sleeping, plus they will have to put up some platform tents for our additional members.

Directions and other information about Camp Rainey Mountain can be found at the Northeast Georgia Council website

Camp address for mail:

Name of Scout, Troop 149
Camp Rainey Mountain
1494 Rainey Mountain Rd
Clayton, GA 30525

Telephone, for emergency use only: (706) 782-3733

A pay phone is available, but only with adult supervision. Please do not ask or encourage your Scout to call home and do not send a cell phone to camp with your Scout! This tends to make homesickness more of a problem.

THINGS TO BRING ALONG: Do NOT bring: cell phones, radios, tape players, electronics, sheath knives, things in aerosol cans, dangerous or non-Scoutlike stuff

The Boy Scout Office in Pendergrass is closed the week of July 4, so if you need merit badge books, uniform parts, etc., you should plan to get them before that week. Some items will be available at the CRM trading post, but supplies are sometimes slim. The Scout store in Athens has been closed permanently.

PARENTS: Wednesday night is Family Night; if you'd like to come and visit (Campfire: 8:30 p.m.). Parents may take their sons out to eat (provided they check out at the Admin Building and are back by 8 p.m.) or may pre-purchase a meal at the Dining Hall.

ASM Jim Bennewitz will be there all week. Paul and other adults will be there part of the week.

Thanks!
Jim B.
