Caving 2001

The exciting Cave Exploration trip to Racoon Mountain Caverns outside of Chattanooga is just weeks away! Whether you have gone before or this would be a first time, there really is nothing man-made or natural that compares!

We will be leaving Saturday, Dec. 1st, (you can still make that game) and coming back coming back on Sunday the 2nd. After arriving, we will set up camp (we won't be spending the night in the cave) and soon leave on our 4-hour "wild cave" expediton, wearing the flashlight helmets and kneepads provided by the operators (a 6-hour tour may be chosen by our older Scouts, provided enough sign up for it). The caverns are 5-miles long and provide many different sights and experiences (this is also good background for the geology M.B.) The expedition coordinator is a geologist who would be glad to answer any questions one may have. The caverns maintain a year-round temperature of 60 degrees, and there are showers available at the campground ( and we will be able to have campfires.) These tours are considered to be the most challenging of the tours available to "laymen" in the United States- you'll sleep well that night, but it's not that hard and would be a good challenge.

-- The trip will run $34 for those taking the 4-hour tour and $39 for those taking the six-hour tour.

---We need to have everyone signed up by the 13th so we can make sure of our tours and tour guides. Everyone going will have to sign waivers.

The caverns have a great web site
