Elections

We will be conducting our semi-annual leadership elections and patrol re-organizations on May 14. Please share with your Scout the following information:
All Scouts will have the opportunity to nominate themselves or other
Scouts for the following elected positions, and to vote for their leaders:
Senior Patrol Leader
This Scout runs the meetings, the PLCs, and is
responsible for the success and planning of all our activities. He
typically is in close contact with the Scoutmaster, his assistants, and
the Patrol Leaders.
Requirements: At least First Class in rank; Sets good example in behavior,
participation, and uniform; preferably has been Asst. Senior Patrol Leader
and/or Patrol Leader.
The SPL will appoint up to 2 Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders, who provide
general leadership, fill in for the SPL, and supervise the appointed
leadership positions.
Same requirements as SPL.
Each Patrol will elect a Patrol Leader
This Scout runs the patrol,
provides leadership during meetings, on campouts, and at the Patrol
Leaders' Council meetings. The PL should expect to phone his patrol
weekly. The PL appoints an assistant, too.
Requirements: At least First Class in rank; sets good example in behavior,
attitude, participation and uniform. Previous leadership experience is
helpful.
The SPL and ASPLs, in consultation with the Scoutmaster and the Patrol
Leaders' Council, will appoint the following leadership positions. Scouts
should indicate if they are interested in these:
Troop Quartermaster (2):
Keep shed and chuckboxes in order and complete. Supervise packing on trips.
Troop Scribe:
Keeps notes at PLC. Helps send info to web page and/or
newsletter.
Chaplain's Aide:
Fosters Scouts' duty to God and leads camping worship
services.
Historian:
Takes photos on trips; keeps troop scrapbooks; publicizes
activities in the press.
Librarian:
Responsible for the Merit Badge library.
Den Chief:
Works with Pack 149 (or another local pack) by helping a specific Den.
Order of the Arrow Representative:
Active in OA; promotes OA activities in troop.
Bugler:
Plays bugle calls on camping trips.
Scouts who are Life or Eagle may also be asked to serve as Troop Guides,
Instructors, or (in exceptional cases) Junior Assistant Scoutmasters. The
job duties for these vary but involve teaching, leading, and advising.
We will have a sign-up/nomination list at Tuesday's meeting, or your Scout
can email me if he wants to be considered for a position. Remember that
Scouts working on Star, Life or Eagle must serve in a leadership position.
We will plan to have a Junior Leader Training session for all elected and
appointed leaders in the weeks after the election. We will also probably
have a Patrol Leader's Council meeting the weekend after the election.
We will also divide the Scouts into four Patrols. If your Scout cannot
attend on the 14th, and he wants to give input on who he is with, he
should send word with a buddy Scout.
Further information about the leadership position duties can be found on the Troop 149 Leadership Duties web page.
