Deep Sea Fishing

Home

Time to start thinking about catching red snapper, trigger fish and king mackerel in the blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico -- Sept. 6-8 is locked in and the only thing that can cancel it is a hurricane!

All participants meet Thursday at 7pm at the church to pack the trailer and their personal gear.

Paul will leave Friendship at 3:00pm on Friday Sept. 6th in the Scout van, along with anyone else who is available to meet then and will drive to Briarwood Baptist Church. (on Hog Mountain Road)

All others should meet at Briarwood with leaving time 3:30pm for the 7 hour drive to Grayton Beach State Park where we will camp Friday and Sat. nights. Scouts must be in full "class A" uniform for the trip.

Every participant needs to confirm with Jim D. or Bill O. where they will meet us on Friday afternoon.

We will rise early Sat. morning, allowing 45 minutes to drive to the docks for departure at 7am to the fishing grounds.

We are booked for an 8 hour trip on 2 boats, The Gentle Winds (Greg Marler) and the Four Winds (Kerry Gillman), both excellent boats and captains that have loaded our coolers in the past. Olin Marler's Deep Sea Fishing Fleet

We usually fry and/or blacken fish on Sat. Night. Should be back at church between 5-7 pm Sunday.

We can take 36 to 40 scouts and parents, but no more than 40 so decide! The cost is $130 per person, payable August 6 or 13 and is NON-REFUNDABLE.

Things to bring:

Also, think about volunteering to drive. A talk on Fishing Techniques and seamanship will be given September 3.

Bill O. (aka Billy Bob) has agreed to help me organize and take money at the meetings, since I miss most Tuesdays due to travel.

Ask another scout or parent who has been on this trip before -- its a favorite and worth the money. More details as we get closer.

Jim D.
